Create option to use a chosen name

Many of my clients use a chosen name for communications but require their legal name on receipts. Having this option, and the therapist not mis-naming them, even through Upheal generated communications, is really important for the therapeutic relationship.

    Now available: Client preferred names 🎉

    You can add a client’s preferred name in their contact form. It will appear throughout Upheal, including client lists, calendar, search, and session headers, while keeping the legal name visible where needed, for example, Chuck (Charles) Leclerc.

    Clients will only see their preferred name in the portal and video waiting room. Legal names remain on insurance claims, superbills, invoices, and other legal documents, and you can search for clients by their preferred name.

      Thank you for prioritizing this! What seems important to me is that clients and therapists have the option to enter chosen name as well as legal name when setting up a client profile, and for all communications to the client to use the chosen name but for legal documents like invoices and receipts to use the legal name. Thank you!

        I’d like to ask that at some point, preferred names can appear by default throughout the system when possible without listing legal names. Examples: the client name that shows on the therapist’s end in telehealth, names/initials in calendar appointments, etc.

    Would love a “preferred name” spot with appropriate functions/settings

    Maybe the ability to use a preferred name for everything it can legally be used for, and the legal name wherever it needs to be (beyond our control, like insurance).

    My CPTSD clients tend to have particular preferences here, as well as those in a state of transition. From a trauma-informed stance, it’s great to be able to have them use their preferred name as much as possible while still having their legal first name available for anything connected to billing/insurance. Some of my clients have visceral reactions to their legal first names, so where there is room for autonomy and gentleness, I would love to provide this to them.

    Box to add preferred first name/alias

    Not all clients use their legal first name, so it would be helpful to add their preferred first name or alias for reference

    Legal versus Preferred Name for Clinicians

    I’d like to be able to set my full legal name for external-facing forms like superbills that go to insurance companies and my preferred name for client contacts, appointment reminders, and the greeting from UpHeal. This is similar to requests around clients with names and legal names, but for clinicians to have that capacity, as well. Also, being able to use special characters in name text boxes would go a long way, so I can enter my preferred name in quotes, as it’s supposed to be written for legal purposes. Thanks!

    Client details

    By the client details, please add “name that they go by” or “preferred name” as there are many times that they go by or want to be called by a different name
